Frequently Asked Questions
Unable to finance the vast sized studies that the pharmaceutical giants do, to support their treatments, complementary therapies have to make do with much smaller studies – however these have and do take place and the results make for interesting reading (have a google). But I think clients are best placed to answer this question. They are the ones who know whether it worked for them or not. Ultimately, the only way to find out if it will work for you is to try it.
As to how or why it works, there is no definitive answer. There are however some very plausible theories discussed online that I recommend you read, but did you know that there are thousands of nerve endings in both the hands and feet? For me, that’s at least one key closer to unlocking its secret.
What I do know is that reflexology can have a very positive effect on people, even during the treatment, and good things often follow.
Surprisingly not! Even the most ticklish of feet tend to enjoy clinical reflexology. Though I do offer hand or face reflexology (facial zone therapy), I wholeheartedly recommend reflexology on the feet and tend to suggest hand reflexology only when the feet are absolutely out of the question. There really is something very grounding and relaxing about having your feet worked on, the reflex areas on the feet are larger and you get to lie down!
Don’t be. You owe those feet. They work tirelessly and are often neglected. But yours are not the only feet - I’ve seen a lot of feet, so don’t be shy. And if you’re worried about being a sweaty Betty (apologies to the Bettys of the world), again, don’t - I wipe all feet before commencing treatment. Besides, I’m not just working on your feet – whilst I work over them, I’m working on and thinking about you as a whole. Mind, body and soul.
At your first appointment I will work through a consultation with you to gain an insight into your life and lifestyle. All information discussed is confidential. This consultation is vital to the holistic approach. There are also some reflexes that I wouldn’t work in particular circumstances so this information forms the basis of the treatment I give.
That’s the hard bit over. Nothing other than your shoes and socks/tights needs to be removed, when that’s done I will recline you in the treatment chair.
The Chair... the chair I trained with and use is my favourite place to be and I have yet to encounter a client who wanted to get out of it at the end of the treatment! It also offers fantastic relief for those of you with back pain. Making sure you are comfortable and warm in the chair, I will then wrap your feet in a towel and wash my hands.
A brief inspection of the feet may give me an extra insight into your health, then I wipe them and get to work! After the treatment, whilst you sip a drink of water (key to supporting the treatment), we will discuss any thing you felt (if anything – some people sleep the entire way through whilst others drift in and out) and I will discuss my findings. Then I’ll offer you aftercare advice and any relevant information I feel will support you.
Once again, this is not a substitute for medical advice. Always speak to your health practitioners without delay over any health concerns you have.
